Physical examination

UARS patients differ anthropometrically from patients with SAHS. They are generally thin, young, and predominantly female. The recommended physical examination is similar to that for OSAS patients. Guilleminault described an increase in nasal resistance, excessive pharyngeal tissue, mild retrognathia, narrowing of the oropharynx and ogival hard palate (Guillemianult 1995), with high scores on the Mallampati scale.
