Ovarian cancer remains a highly lethal disease. Effective screening for ovarian cancer is lacking. Both prophylactic and surgery chemoprevention with oral contraceptives have been advocated. Oral contraceptive pills are believed to reduce risk both in the general population and in women without an increased risk for ovarian cancer. Prophylactic bilateral salpingectomy results in surgical menopause, but significantly reduces risk in the high-risk group.
