The seeds have been used to weigh gold, silver, and diamonds, because they have a narrow range in weight. It is interesting that they are so very similar in weight, four seeds making up about 1 gram.
The bark contains saponins, and has been used to wash hair and clothing. The red dye from the tree has been used for dyeing clothes and for cosmetic purposes. Brahmins used this dye to mark religious symbols on their foreheads.
