as those shown in Fig. 14.17 that can be used to calibrate and test flow models are relatively rare. Similarly, while tracer experiment and pollutant cloud observations that can be used to calibrate and test transport models have been carried out on many rivers, there are relatively few cases where observations are available for multiple discharges or for non-conservative pollutants. As stressed elsewhere in this book, quality assessment of the available data should therefore be an important part of any study.
