When to Call the Doctor

Parents should call a doctor if the child shows the following warning signs:

• fever over 101°F that stays up after fever medication has been given

• any fever that lasts more than three days

• difficulty breathing, very rapid breathing, shortness of breath, or wheezing, noisy breathing

• blue or dusky color around mouth, nail beds, or skin

• extremely painful headache, throat, sinuses, or teeth
