Treatment

A child's doctor may sometimes recommend stretching exercises to be done at home during feedings, repetitively and gently moving the foot to a straight position; this may be enough to straighten out the foot. If these exercises do not work, the doctor may recommend surgery, but this drastic step is rarely considered and not until the child is at least five or six years old. Most experts believe the best treatment is to wait and see if the child will outgrow the condition.

Special shoes and braces that had been used in the past to treat this problem have never been shown to speed up the natural, gradual improvement in this condition.
