Crohns disease

Crohn's disease is characterised by chronic transmural granulomatous inflammation, with a tendency to form complications such as fistulae or strictures. Crohn's disease can affect any area of the gastrointestinal tract, often in discontinuity. The nature and presentation will vary according to the site, the extent of the macroscopic change and presence of complications. Crohn's disease most commonly affects the terminal ileum and proximal colon. Some patients have isolated small bowel or exclusively colonic involvement.
