Wrist Sprain

Injury to ligaments of the wrist is common when the hand is extended to break a fall. Such accidents occur in ice skating, snowboarding, roller skating, cycling, soccer, football, baseball, and volleyball. An athlete with this injury may feel pain, swelling, and burning or tingling sensation, with bruising at the wrist.

Wrist sprains vary from moderate to severe. In severe cases, complete tearing of the ligaments may occur. Dry needling acupuncture is most effective if used immediately after the accident. Apply needles to the painful, swollen and bruised tissue at about two to three needles per square centimeter. Swelling can be treated once every day. Two sessions per week should be offered.
