Thigh injuries include muscle strains, contusions, and myositis ossificans. The quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip adductors are the most common sites of strains in soccer players. Symptoms of muscle strains include pain during activity or during an isometric muscle contraction, a feeling of muscle pulling during running or playing, and loss of function and the manifestation of increased tone.

Of soccer-related injuries, contusions have the highest incidence after knee and ankle injuries, and the quadriceps are the most commonly involved muscles. Symptoms of contusion include swelling, stiffness, and pain during muscle contraction. Acute care is more necessary than actual long-term rehabilitation in the management of contusions.32

Myositis ossificans is a complication of muscle contusion. The symptoms include pain, swelling, and the presence of a lump on palpation. Ectopic bone forms in the quadriceps muscle belly, and diagnosis is confirmed by radiographic examination.

Dry needling acupuncture is very effective in healing these thigh injuries. The treatment should be provided for two sessions per week. The treatment protocol should include both local treatment and the core system.
