Stress Fracture

Stress fractures can occur in any bone but occur mostly in the bones of the foot, lower leg, and hip. This injury is mostly caused by repetitive stress or strength imbalance that results from muscle fatigue.

Fatigued muscles are tight and no longer able to absorb the shock of impact, and so the physical stress is transferred directly to the bone.

This injury creates generalized pain in the area, especially during weight bearing. The pain may be severe in the beginning and during running, and then it may subside but returns after running has finished.

Dry needling acupuncture is very effective in treating this injury. Needles can be applied to the symptomatic area. The treatment is used to balance the entire musculoskeletal system. Two treatment sessions per week should be provided.

Prevention of this injury is possible with weekly treatment for balancing the musculoskeletal system.
