This common athletic injury occurs most often in gymnastics, weightlifting, and football. The injury is related to overuse, flexion, twisting, or hyperextension of the spine and most often is found in the fifth lumbar vertebra.
The symptoms include back pain and muscle stiffness or spasms, with tingling sensation in the thigh or lower leg.
Regardless of whether surgery is needed, dry needling acupuncture is very helpful in reducing the pain and tingling sensation and in restoring spine function. The treatment procedure is exactly the same as that for disc herniation, but the healing process in this injury may take a longer time. Two treatment sessions per week should be given.
This injury can be prevented by weekly dry needling acupuncture to reduce the stress on the musculature, tendons, and ligaments of the spine.
Spreading between the ribs and the pelvis, the anterior abdominal wall muscles encase the internal organs and hold them in place. These muscles also act to support the trunk and lower back and to assist movement. There are three layers of abdominal muscle. The deepest layer is the transversus abdominis, whose fibers run approximately horizontally. The middle layer is the internal oblique muscle, whose fibers are crossed by the outermost layer, the external oblique muscle. Overlying these three layers is the rectus abdominis muscle, which runs vertically on either side of the middle line of the abdomen.
Abdominal muscle strain is caused by overstretching or tearing of muscle fibers during sudden and violent movement of the trunk or trauma to the region. The symptoms include abdominal pain, lower back pain, and muscle spasms.
Immediate medical examination is needed to rule out or confirm (and treat) injuries of the internal organs or severe muscle injury.
As with all muscle strain, dry needling acupuncture is very effective in accelerating healing. Depending on the thickness of the abdominal wall, about one to three 25-mm-to 50-mm-long needles per square centimeter are applied to the strained muscles. Two treatment sessions per week are recommended.

Have You Always Been Curious About Acupuncture, But Were Never Quite Sure Where To Stick The Needles? If you associate acupuncture with needles, pain and weird alternative medicine then you are horribly misinformed about the benefits of the world's oldest form of medicinal treatment.
