Ligaments provide strong and flexible connections between bones. The spine is supported by several ligaments: The anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments connect the vertebral bodies of the entire spine (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar). The causes of ligament sprain are the same as those of muscle sprain, and the injured soft tissue can be simultaneously both the muscles and the ligaments of the back.
Recovery from ligament sprain of the back takes longer than recovery from muscle sprain of the back. Dry needling acupuncture therapy is very helpful in alleviating this condition. Needles can be applied to the painful, tender, and swollen region. In most cases, direct needling of the ligament is impossible, and the treatment may focus on the sensitive area. When treating the condition, the practitioner should not ignore the neck, shoulders, hips, and lower limbs. Two treatment sessions per week are recommended.
