Dislocation of the shoulder occurs when there is violent contact with another athlete or a solid object or when an athlete falls on an outstretched hand during abduction and external rotation of the shoulder.
Immediate medical attention is needed right after the injury. Dry needling acupuncture should be used at all phases of this injury for pain, swelling, restoration of mobility, and postsurgical rehabilitation. The dry needling acupuncture treatment should include neck and shoulder. Treatment involves needling the anterior shoulder capsule, the insertions of the middle and inferior glenohumeral ligaments, and the trapezius, deltoid, and other shoulder muscles, especially those originating on the scapula. One session every day for swelling and two sessions per week for pain of the soft tissues are recommended.
