This injury is characterized by pain on abduction and extension of the thumb as a result of inflammation of the extensor pollicis brevis and the abductor polli-cis longus tendons. It can be caused by direct trauma, overuse, repetitive stress, excessive vibration, or movement involving sharp bending of the tendons.
Treatment should include the inflamed tendons and related muscles on the hand and forearm. Dry needling acupuncture accompanied with thermo-therapy promotes satisfactory healing.
