Overuse of biceps brachii without proper relaxation or a sudden increase in the duration or intensity of training can stress bicipital tendons and result in tendinitis. This injury is common in athletes engaged in throwing sports and also in weightlift-ers, golfers, and rowers.
The injury produces pain and tenderness along the length of the tendon over the bicipital groove during resisted forearm supination and elbow flexion.
Dry needling acupuncture is very helpful in healing the tendinitis. Needles should be applied directly into the inflamed tendon, the surrounding tissues, the shoulder muscles, and the tender points in the biceps brachii. One session every day for swollen tissues and two sessions per week for pain are recommended.
