In conceptualizing issues of comorbidity, it is important to decipher how the co-occurrence of specific PDs impacts depression. To simplify this process the following PDs are categorized in clusters, as presented in DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Interestingly, the clusters themselves present complicating factors associated with both the co-occurrence of depression and treatment outcomes. Below we briefly describe how each co-occurring PD compounds the assessment and treatment of depression. Each section also includes specific suggestions for modifying CT for depression with the co-occurring PD.
