Quality of Marriage Index

The Quality of Marriage Index (QMI; Norton, 1983), a brief, 6-item assessment of overall relationship satisfaction, has good psychometric properties (Heyman, Sayers, & Bellack, 1994). Although QMI scores may correlate with FAD scores, the QMI measures affective aspects of a relationship (e.g., "I feel like part of a team with my partner"), whereas the FAD is more behav-iorally oriented. Because the QMI is so brief, it is easy to use on a regular basis to assess change over time.
