Neurological Disorders

Studying patients with discrete brain lesions has allowed neurologists, neuropsychologists, and cognitive neuroscientists to learn that the brain is organized in a modular fashion such that there are specific areas of the brain that mediate specific functions. In the past 20 years, the ability of investigators to perform functional imaging has brought converging evidence for the concept of modularity or localization of function. In addition, many behaviors exhibited by people are complex, and studies of the behavioral changes associated with lesions of the brain have allowed scientists to fractionate many of these complex functions into their component parts. In this chapter I review how some neurological disorders might influence creativity.
