Eyewitness Testimony

A disturbing feature of the criminal justice system is the fact that many innocent individuals have been put in prison purely on the basis of eyewitness testimony. As Fruzzetti et al. (1992) pointed out, even a very low rate of mistaken identification could lead to several hundreds of innocent people a year being convicted of crimes. Eyewitness testimony, and the factors that influence its reliability, have been the focus of much interest.
