Early cranial radiation may result in disrupted tooth development and in the blunting of roots of your childs permanent teeth. This can result in your childs missing certain permanent teeth or in early tooth loss because of shortened roots. The involvement of a pedodontist (children's dentist) is important. Any child who has received cranial or spinal radiation is at additional risk for dental decay because of diminished function of the salivary glands. Appropriate dental evaluations and treatment with fluoride preparations are necessary.
