Support groups for siblings

Many hospitals have responded to the growing awareness of siblings' natural concerns and worries by creating hospital visiting days for them. This allows not only one-on-one parent time for the siblings, but gives them the opportunity to explore and become familiar with the hospital environment. Sibling days allow interaction with staff, a time to have questions answered and concerns addressed. Some hospital staffs have expanded these one-day programs into ongoing support groups aimed not just at siblings who are having problems, but also at improving communication, education, and support for all siblings.

Both of Shawn's brothers went to the sibling group for years. It seemed to really help them. I don't really know what they did in that room upstairs, but they always came down happy.

Annie went to Club Goodtimes long after her brother stopped going and attended camp as many years as they would allow. She intends to be on the staff at camp next summer.
