Some children who have been treated for leukemia are at risk of developing learning disabilities as a consequence of their treatment. Those at highest risk are children under 5 years old who receive both cranial radiation and intrathecal methotrexate, children who received high-dose methotrexate, and young children who are given significant amounts of intrathecal methotrexate. There is considerable research on the types of learning difficulties exhibited by these children. This topic is covered in Chapter 15, School.
