Psychological explanations

There are various psychological explanations of the NDE. One of these was formulated by Noyes and Kletti (1976), who state the NDE should be seen as a form of depersonalization, which occurs as a defense mechanism against the perceived threat of dying. Another psychological theory considers the near-death experience to be analogous to birth, while the 'tunnel effect' and the emergence into a bright light have been interpreted as a symbolic re-living of the birth process. The tunnel is the birth canal and the white light is the world into which we were born. This theory was promoted by the late astronomer Carl Sagan. In his words

Historical Origins Aretaeus

Aretaeus of Cappadocia (circa ad 150) 38 is usually credited with more explicitly stating the connection between the two major mood states It appears to me that melancholy is the commencement and a part of mania. He proceeded to describe euphoric mania as we know it in contemporary psychiatry There are infinite forms of mania but the disease is one. The average of a set of values becomes the distribution mean, located midpoint in this graphic. Valuable in psychological testing, comparing individuals' abilities relative to others may suggest relevant outcomes such as need for special educational treatment. Some genetics-oriented researchers have generated controversy by applying Bell...

Though grammatical, speech is peculiar due to abnormal inflection and repetition. Clumsiness (and a lack of motor planning) is prominent both in speech and physical movements. Individuals with this disorder usually have a limited area of interest that usually excludes more age-appropriate, common interests. Some examples of these single-minded obsessions may include cars, trains, Russian literature, doorknobs, hinges, astronomy, or history.
