Designated adolescent clinics may also be useful in developing peer relationships. A welcoming outpatient waiting area with seats arranged strategically and adolescent-friendly reading materials may also lead to social intercourse with other patients. A youth worker or other volunteer could be instrumental in introducing young people to one another. When friendships are evidently developing, these can be facilitated by scheduling appointments at the same time in order to maintain contacts (Fig. 1).
