Psychosocial Family History

A fundamental aspect of the assessment of the adolescent-parent dynamics in the context of a chronic condition is a thorough family history extending beyond the traditional family history to ascertain inherited conditions. This can come under the Home component of the HEADSS acronym (Home, Education, Activities, Drugs, Sex, Suicide) (11) and includes such information as who lives with whom, who has contact with whom, where are the close or difficult relationships, the preferential and/or close bonds and who are the influential family members etc.
